Hans Wilschut’s urban landscapes tend to show places in transition. Socio-cultural change, globalisation and the boom in tourism are widening the gap between nature and human habitation. Wilschut visited these areas in the evening or at night to photograph them at varying shutter speeds. Because he always works at times of reduced visibility, light plays an important part in his work. This is clear from the works shown here. As the first works by Wilschut ever to be acquired by the Gemeentemuseum, Organism, Roof and Hidden constitute a valuable new addition to the museum’s collection of contemporary photography.
